Vinícius de Oliveira was discovered as a young boy by Walter Salles and called by him to act in "Central Station" (1998) as Josué, the film's protagonist alongside Fernanda Montenegro. The film was acclaimed worldwide, winning the BAFTA and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as being nominated for an Oscar in the same category.

In theater, he has performed in "Carro de Paulista" (2010, directed by Jairo Matos), "Geração Trianon" (2004, directed by Cico Caseira), "Eles Não Usam Black-Tie" (2001, directed by Marcus Vinicius Faustini) and "Jovem Drummond" (2000, directed by André Monteiro).
