Ana Johann
Director and Screenwriter
Ana Johann is a screenwriter, writer and director known for her original scripts, both fiction and documentary, and has received several awards throughout her career, which began in 2007. Her first feature-length documentary “Um Filme para Dirceu” (2012) premiered at the 45th Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema and won the special jury prize for language study. Her third fictional feature film "A mesma parte de um homem" (2022) won her the Helena Ignez Award for Outstanding Female Feature at the 24th Mostra de Tiradentes, and Best Original Screenplay by the Brazilian Screenwriters Association - Abra, among others, and is available on the Mubi platform and Canal Brasil.
Ana has a degree in Journalism and, in 2005, received a scholarship to study documentary at the University of Barcelona through the Ibermedia project. In 2015, she completed her master's degree in Communication and Language with the release of the book "The Construction of the Poetic in the Cinematographic Screenplay" (2017), which presents a research on symbolic and narrative objects in the screenplay that drive the scene. In addition to her work as a screenwriter and director, she is also a teacher and script consultant, which keeps her up to date with the latest theories and tools to use in her own and other projects.
In 2015, Ana Johann was one of the three winners of the FRAPA Screenwriting Competition - Porto Alegre Audiovisual Screenwriting Festival - with the project "Terrestre", which was later renamed "Dias que Palpitam no Escuro". The project was also selected to take part in the Fundación Carolina/Ibermedia International Laboratory in 2017, held in Madrid.
As an author and screenwriter of projects for production companies, Ana has dedicated herself to investigating personal narratives with the potential to be transformed into fiction or documentary, as well as exploring the genres of thriller, drama, dramatic comedy and coming-of-age in stories that are also entirely fictional. She has also developed two series projects that are a mix between fantasy and sci-fi.
She is currently working on her sixth series development room, three of which are in the thriller genre, two in dramatic comedies and one in drama.
Her ability to create stories and direct both in the language of fiction and documentary gives her a broad perspective on audiovisual production, which is an advantage in her work.
In 2023 he released his first novel "Stories to Kill the Good Woman".
