Anita Rocha da Silveira is a director and screenwriter. With a degree in Cinema from PUC-Rio and a specialization in Screenwriting, Anita Rocha da Silveira has written and directed three short films: "O Vampiro do Meio-Dia" (2008), "Handebol" (2010, FIPRESCI Prize at the Int. Short Film Festival Oberhausen), and "Os Mortos-Vivos" (2012, selected for the Cannes Filmmakers' Fortnight).
Her first feature film as a director, "Mate-Me Por Favor" (2015), premiered at the Mostra Orizzonti of the Venice Film Festival, and has participated in festivals such as SXSW, New Directors/New Films, AFI Fest, IndieLisboa, Filmfest München, Gotebörg Film Festival, Festival do Rio (Best Director and Best Actress), Festival Int. de Cine de Cali (Best Film) and Panorama Int. Coisa de Cinema (Best Film). It is currently in the Netflix catalog.
"Medusa" (2021) is her second feature and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight. It went on to take part in festivals such as TIFF, Sitges Film Festival (Best Director), Tromsø Int. Film Festival (Best Film), IndieLisboa (Special Jury Prize), Rio Film Festival (Best Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress), Raindance Film Festival (Best International Film), Palm Springs Int. Film Festival (Honorable Mention), Viennale, Jeonju IFF and IFFR. It premiered commercially in countries such as France, the United States, England and Germany. In Brazil, it was commercially released in March 2023 and is currently available on Globoplay and Claro TV.
In 2023, Anita was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood and developed the script for her next feature film with the support of the Torino Film Lab.
